As I near the one year anniversary of Not Your Average Widow, I’m reflecting on this wonderful little home I’ve created online. This blog started as a simple journal, a place to write out my jumbled thoughts and try to make sense of my grief. Over the course of it’s short life, it’s become much more. Through my keyboard I’ve spilled my heart into words, connected with others, compiled resources, discovered a lot about myself, and created a refuge of healing, companionship, and inspiration.
I was shocked to open my email to see “Congratulations! I am pleased to inform you that, out of nearly 1,000 submissions, the committee has chosen one of your posts to be among the 20 Honorees in the Life category.” It is a huge honor to be selected among some of the most amazing bloggers out there. I’m flattered, touched, humbled, and thrilled that my words were not only read but chosen as one of the most influential on the topic of Life, which encompasses the “joys, sorrows, challenges, and rewards of everyday life, told by distinctive voices.”
Although I am thrilled, it is a bit bittersweet because the words that touched so many were the ones that were the most painful for me. The particular post that was chosen was the one I wrote recently about my breakdown and my letter to The Hubs. Although it was difficult to put those thoughts into words, I am so glad to know that my experience can help others.
I’d like to say thank you to the BlogHer panel of judges and the entire community for this honor. And congratulations to all who were chosen as the Voices of the Year! This is truly an amazing group of women and writers, be sure to check them out. And if you are blogger, get over to BlogHer and join the largest community of women bloggers online!
