Welcome to the third act of WSW’s Holiday Giveaway Quartet!
Are you guys enjoying the Giveaway series so far? I know I am! We have had some wonderful artists so far and I am so thankful for their generosity. It has been a pleasure to feature their handmade art and offer you an opportunity to win a special gift! We are halfway through the series and have two more lovely artists up next, I’m excited. :)
This week I am featuring the very talented Lisa Ference of Signal Mountain Artists. Based out of Virginia, Lisa has a sooper-secret kick-butt job by day and is a super-talented kickback artist by night. :) I just love this awesome lady and the unique goods she crafts from renewable and recyclable materials. The Signal Mountain Artists website and Etsy shop feature handmade journals, candles, clay tins, paper bowls, and her special ‘Achy Bones’ bath salts.
Being a paper lover and a writer, I just adore Lisa’s unique hand-bound journals. I’ve always had a thing for paper; I collect unique stationary, love writing letters by hand, and have dabbled in bookbinding. I’ve kept a journal since I was 8 years old; even though I brought them online (as you know, this very blog began as a journal of sorts) I’ve always kept a paper one as well. Journaling is such a great way to preserve your story, to document your journey and work through your emotions and discover yourself in the process.
So when I stumbled across Lisa’s work, it was love at first sight. Turns out this same love is what led the Signal Mountain Artist herself to discover her gift of journal-making. In Lisa’s words, “I started making journals just because I love paper. Coming from the computer industry, it was important to unplug while traveling. I also like pressing flowers, saving ticket stubs, sketching, and making faces out of salad dressing spills. That developed into learning binding techniques and designing journals.”
To pass along our love of paper and inspire you to write your story, Lisa and I are offering a gorgeous journal to one lucky reader! This 5″x7″ journal is hand-bound and features a leather cover adorned with a tablet that bears the inscription, ‘Ready or Not Here I Come.’ (How bold is that?! This is for you, Unleashers!) The coptic bound book lays flat when open with 120 blank pages. All materials were selected and assembled by hand in a non-smoking home, are acid-free, and contain a minimum of 50% recycled paper and products.
